Moving compensation, which can be removed and returned into the mouth of the patient, are known as prostheses or dentures and they can be both, total and partial.

Partial dentures

protezePartial dentures are made when the jaw is missing one or more teeth and when for some reason (insufficient number and unfavorably distributed remaining teeth, financial reasons …) you can not do the fixed compensation (the bridge).

Partial acrylic prosthesis is made entirely of acrylic and by modern attitudes they are a temporary compensation. These dentures are much larger and thicker than other types of partial dentures.

Partial skeletal prostheses (vizil) are best solution. They have more endurance due to the metal framework (cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy), providing greater comfort due to the smaller surface of the part of the prosthesis that relies on a soft tissue (palate, sublingual region). The advantage of partial dentures is that they rely on the remaining teeth using precisely manufactured cast hooks which provide significantly greater stability of the prosthesis. Except of cast hooks, it can also be made an attachment (or a clip) of which there are various forms (slides, balls). This form of retention is stronger than the hooks and its advantage is also a better aesthetic appearance of compensation. In order to place attachments in braces, it is essential to make the appropriate metal ceramic crowns on remaining teeth.

Total dentures

Edentulism is a condition of being toothless. With total dentures you can replace lost teeth and parts of the alveolar ridge (part of the jawbone where the teeth are).

Before starting the prosthetic treatment with total dentures it is necessary to make a detailed clinical examination. Some states require the preparation of the tissues on which lies the denture. Preparation of the tissue on which lies the denture includes, besides the rehabilitation inflammatory changes in tissues, a surgical therapy too (removal of residual teeth roots, removing sharp bone edges, works on the soft tissues, implant placement).

Implant placement, with special implant types which carry dentures, provides complete stabilization of the prosthesis. These implants are of special sizes and are adapted for toothless regions with a reduced amount of bone. At their ends there are balls and in the denture there are caps and their contact leads to “buttoning” prostheses implants.

The advantages of these prostheses are numerous: they are maximally stable and allow normal function of chewing all kinds of foods, they normalize speech, reduce irritation of mucous membranes and leave no unpleasant feeling of displacement of dentures, which often causes nausea. All this improves the quality of your life.

After a detailed clinical examination and analysis of tooth radiography, our oral surgeon, M. D. Aleksandar Ćirić will set a detailed treatment plan and answer all your questions related to this type of therapy of the edentulousness.
